Class Affair (Socks)

After a good start in the dressage, unfortunately Socks and Zara had an early departure from Burghley after a fall on cross country day.

It was strong run  up until the pair parted company at fence 16b.

As you can see from the video in the gallery below, it was a rapid exit from the saddle and our huge thanks go to a vital sponsor Racesafe, for their super body protection which has allowed us to walk away as easily as we have done.

Socks is fine and out in the field having a nice break, thanks to the wider Defender Burghley team and groom Ellen. 

We are looking forward to getting back out at the next event.

It was a pleasing weekend for Zara and Class Affair (Socks) at the MARS Badminton Horse Trials.

82 horses started the prestigious event in Gloucestershire, with the dressage phase spanning two days, across Thursday and Friday.

Zara and Socks were drawn 15th to go on Thursday. Overall it was a good test, finishing on a score of 37.2.

Maintaining the drawn position of 15th, Zara and Socks set off around the cross country phase on Saturday morning, jumping a faultless round, albeit with some time penalties. The clear round in this phase helped to move them up into 19th position, ahead of the showjumping on Sunday.

Socks jumped a great round in front of a packed grandstand, for an unfortunate rail, heading into the double at fence 9, ending the competition on a final score of 59.6 and finishing in 16th place.

Judith Luff and Zara’s Classicals Euro Star (Casper) made an impressive start to Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials this weekend. Casper has only made a handful of 4* starts and he performed a fantastic dressage test for a score of 30.4. He then powered round the cross country course for just 3.2 time faults and into 7th place on the leader board. Sadly he ended up with a sore foot after cross country, so the team made the decision to withdraw him from the showjumping phase on Sunday. Casper is at home and he is doing well. Although it was an unfortunate end to Blenheim, he was a superstar all week and we are really pleased with his performance at this level.

Blenheim Palace International Horse Trials 2024

Classicals Eurostar (Casper) and Class Affair (Socks) made the trip to Norfolk to compete in the CCI-S 4* at the weekend.

Both horses went well in the dressage phase, with scores in the 30s, albeit a slightly disappointing score for Socks, before jumping double clears in the showjumping and cross country phases, finishing with minor time faults in the cross country.

A great CCI-S 4* at Barefoot Retreats Burnham Market International

Socks had a great run at Bramham International Horse Trials, finishing in 3rd place in the Defender CCI-S 4*.

Having produced a good score in the dressage phase, Socks then jumped a faultless Showjumping round, followed by a clear Cross Country round, with just 4 time penalties.

Class Affair finishes 3rd at Bramham International Horse Trials 

Casper competed his first event of the 2023 season on Saturday 22nd April at Kelsall Hill International in the Advanced Intermediate.

After a great dressage test and clear showjumping, Casper had a confident and clear run cross country with just a couple of time penalties.

Hopefully Casper will step up a level to Advanced on his next run.

A strong start to the season for Classicals Euro Star at Kelsall Hill International

We're excited to see Class Affair (Socks) heading off to Land Rover Kentucky 5* this week, having had an initial run at Thoresby at the end of March.

We're pleased that Socks has made a safe arrival in Kentucky and are looking forward to the event, after a slightly interesting (damp) start to the UK eventing season for everyone weather wise.

Class Affair heads off to Land Rover Kentucky 5*

Class Affair cruised round the South of England International OI at the weekend, finishing in 2nd place.

Socks had a strong start in the dressage, with a score of 28.2, followed by a clear showjumping round, and just 2.8 time penalties cross country.

Classicals Euro Star delivered an excellent performance at Wellington International, coming 2nd in the Intermediate.

With a strong start in the dressage on a score of 27.7, Casper showed his scope in the jumping phases, with a double clear and finishing on just 0.4 time penalties after the cross country.

A 2nd place for Classicals Euro Star at Wellington International

It was an encouraging run for Zara and Class Affair at Hartpury CCI-S 4* at the weekend.

Socks finished the dressage phases on a score of 32.8, and then after an unlucky first rail, he jumped a good showjumping round, followed by clear cross country, with 6 time faults. 

This was a great final prep run ahead of Burghley at the start of September.
